On Saturday, March 29, 2025, the commune of Helperknapp hosted its annual spring cleanup event, “Grouss Botz”, organized by the Syndicat d’Initiative Tuntange together with the local Environment Commission. The action brought citizens together to protect the beauty of Luxembourg’s landscapes by collecting waste and preserving natural spaces.
This year, Coeur Vert Luxembourg proudly participated with a dedicated group of 16 volunteers. For us, it was not only an environmental action but also the materialization of the virtuous circle we have been cultivating:
Young people who first engaged with us through African solidarity projects, such as the Great Green Wall initiative, returned inspired to carry forward the same commitment at home.
Back in Luxembourg, they channeled their energy into local initiatives like “Grouss Botz,” strengthening community bonds while acting for the planet.
Our Responsibility on the Day
During the event, our group took on the responsibility of cleaning the public road near Ansembourg, Marienthal, and Hollenfels. This effort ensured that not only natural spaces but also heavily used routes were restored to a cleaner, safer, and more welcoming state for the community.
Why “Grouss Botz” Mattered
“Grouss Botz” proved to be more than a cleanup — it became a collective statement for sustainability. By participating, citizens of Helperknapp and beyond showed that small local actions are just as essential as global initiatives in tackling today’s environmental challenges.
At Coeur Vert Luxembourg, we demonstrated that global and local engagement feed into each other: protecting forests in Africa helps fight climate change worldwide, while cleaning our own forests, fields, and roads ensures that Luxembourg remains green, healthy, and resilient.
A Day of Community and Nature
Meeting point: 9:00 AM at Bruch near the Koll.
Volunteers brought safety vests and joined the effort.
After the cleanup, from 12:00 onwards, participants gathered for a convivial meal: Erbsesbulli, Mettwurscht, bacon, and spaghetti for the children.
The event also became an opportunity to celebrate solidarity, intergenerational exchange, and community spirit — values at the very heart of Coeur Vert Luxembourg.
Looking Ahead
Our participation in “Grouss Botz 2025” confirmed that youth engagement creates ripple effects: from Africa to Luxembourg, from reforestation to litter collection, from awareness to concrete action. Together, step by step, we are building a greener and fairer future.
