LUXEMBOURG CITY – Amidst the vibrant tapestry of languages, flavors, and music at the Festival Migrations, Cultures & Citoyenneté (festivaldesmigrations.lu), one stand offered more than just a cultural display; it offered a vision of a greener, more stable future.

Association Coeur Vert Luxembourg (CVL) took center stage at Luxexpo The Box this year, turning a standard exhibition space into an immersive window into the heart of the African Sahel. Their mission? To connect the citizens of Luxembourg with the ambitious "Great Green Wall" initiative and secure the future of the 2026 Afforestation Camp in Ivory Coast.

From the Sahel to the Alzette: A Shared Destiny

While the Festival is a celebration of Luxembourg’s multicultural identity, CVL’s presence served as a poignant reminder of the environmental threads that bind Europe and Africa. Through a series of informative panels, visitors were shown the direct correlation between ecological emergencies in Africa—such as desertification and land degradation—and the socio-political shifts felt across European borders.

"Environmental stability in the Sahel isn't just an African priority; it's a global one," noted one volunteer. "When we restore the land, we restore hope, economy, and community."

An Immersive Experience at the CVL Stand

The CVL stand stood out by ditching abstract concepts for tangible reality. Visitors were greeted by volunteers who have personally participated in the afforestation camps, providing first-hand accounts that bridged the gap between a brochure and a lived experience.

What Visitors Discovered:

  • The Power of Witness: Short films were screened throughout the weekend, featuring moving testimonials from past participants who swapped the cityscapes of Europe for the planting fields of the Great Green Wall.

  • The Fruits of Restoration: On display were local products harvested directly from the Great Green Wall projects, including high-quality Arabic gum and intricate acacia wood artisanal products. These items demonstrated that "Green" isn't just a color—it’s a sustainable economy.

  • Direct Dialogue: Engagement wasn't limited to reading; it was about the exchange of ideas on how Luxembourgish civil society can support large-scale ecological restoration.

Objective: Ivory Coast 2026

The primary goal of this year’s presence was to generate the vital funding required for the Fondation Coeur Vert (FCV) 2026 Afforestation Camp in Ivory Coast. These camps are the backbone of the movement, bringing together international volunteers and local communities to plant thousands of trees, creating a natural barrier against the Sahara’s southern creep.

Every donation collected and every product sold at the festival goes directly toward the logistics, seedlings, and infrastructure needed for the upcoming Ivory Coast mission. This camp represents a critical step in the 2026 strategy to expand the green corridor and provide sustainable livelihoods for local populations.

Why Luxembourg Matters

As a global hub for finance and international cooperation, Luxembourg remains a key player in environmental advocacy. The success of the CVL stand at the Festival des Migrations proves that the local community is ready to look beyond its borders.

By supporting CVL, residents are not just planting trees; they are investing in a future where migration is a choice, not a necessity driven by environmental collapse.
