Every year, the cross-country world gathers in Italy for one of the most prestigious events on the international calendar: the Campaccio . For its 69th edition , held on January 24th and 25th in San Giorgio su Legnano , this legendary competition welcomed a strong environmental initiative thanks to the participation of Coeur Vert Luxembourg and Fondation Coeur Vert , committed to offsetting the event's CO₂ emissions through tree planting .
This collaboration perfectly illustrates how high-level sport can become a concrete driver of the ecological transition, thanks also to the partnership with 5R Zero Sprechi .
The Campaccio: a historic race in world cross-country
Founded in 1957 , the Campaccio International Cross Country has become one of the most prestigious cross-country competitions in the world. Held annually in San Giorgio su Legnano , in northern Italy, it attracts top international and Olympic athletes .
Over the decades, the race has seen some of the greatest legends of athletics compete, including two-time Olympic marathon champion Eliud Kipchoge , as well as numerous world champions and Olympic medalists in long-distance and cross-country running.
Thanks to this international reputation, the Campaccio is now a major sporting event broadcast by Italian national television , bringing together thousands of spectators and athletes from all over the world.
A sporting event that is mindful of its environmental impact
With the growth of major sporting events, the question of carbon footprint becomes unavoidable. Athlete travel, logistical organization, temporary facilities: all these activities generate CO₂ emissions.
Aware of this reality, the Campaccio organizing committee wanted to take concrete action to reduce its environmental impact .
For this edition, the organizers decided to make a donation to finance reforestation projects , in collaboration with Coeur Vert Luxembourg , a foundation specializing in carbon offsetting through certified tree planting .
Planting trees to offset the emissions of the Campaccio
Thanks to the support of Campaccio, €600 was allocated to a tree planting program managed by the Coeur Vert Foundation .
These trees will be planted in various reforestation projects in Europe and Africa , with a clear objective: 👉 to absorb the CO₂ generated by the organization of the sporting event .
This type of initiative makes it possible to transform an international sporting event into a concrete actor in the fight against climate change .
In this context, the foundation will also issue an official certificate attesting that the funds have been used for tree-planting activities , thus guaranteeing the transparency and environmental traceability of the project .
Raise public awareness: a Coeur Vert Luxembourg stand at Campaccio
Beyond carbon offsetting, Coeur Vert Luxembourg's participation in Campaccio also aims to raise public awareness of climate issues .
A dedicated booth will be present at the event in order to:
to present the international reforestation projects supported by the foundation
Explain the role of trees in CO₂ capture
show how sporting events can become more sustainable
This presence will create a direct link between the world of sport and environmental action , by inviting athletes, spectators and partners to get involved in concrete initiatives.
When sport and ecology move forward together
Coeur Vert Luxembourg 's participation in Campaccio demonstrates that major sporting competitions can become powerful platforms for promoting climate solutions .
By combining international sporting performance and environmental commitment , this collaboration sends a strong message: 🌍 sport can play a key role in building a more sustainable future .
And when historic events like the Campaccio, which have seen legends like Eliud Kipchoge run, commit to the planet, the impact goes far beyond the finish line .
