Healing the Only Portuguese National Park
In the picturesque forest area near the "G. V. Schiaparelli" Astronomical Observatory in Varese, Italy, a significant biodiversity recovery project is underway. This initiative began in 2019 as a collaboration between Coeur Vert and the observatory. Despite a hiatus caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the project recently resumed with new vigor and a clear focus on restoring and preserving local biodiversity.

Annual Afforestation Camps: Youth Volunteers Rebuilding Portugal's National Park
Since 2016, Coeur Vert has been at the forefront of an inspiring initiative to support Portugal's only national park, which tragically lost 8% of its trees due to catastrophic wildfires. The significant extent of the wildfires was shown in NASA satellite images. Recognizing the urgent need for reforestation, Coeur Vert launched annual afforestation camps that gather youth volunteers from all over Europe.
These camps are more than just tree-planting events; they are vibrant gatherings of passionate young people dedicated to environmental restoration. Each year, these volunteers roll up their sleeves and plant thousands of trees, aiming to restore the park's natural beauty and biodiversity. Their collective efforts not only contribute to the recovery of the forest but also serve as a hands-on educational experience, teaching them about the importance of conservation and sustainable practices.
Fostering Global Community and Environmental Stewardship Through Collective Action
The impact of these afforestation camps extends beyond environmental restoration. By bringing together young volunteers from diverse backgrounds, Coeur Vert fosters a sense of global community and shared responsibility for our planet.
These camps have become a melting pot of ideas, cultures, and friendships, all united by a common goal: to heal and protect our natural environment. The volunteers' dedication and hard work serve as a powerful reminder of what can be achieved through collective action and solidarity.
As they plant each tree, they also plant seeds of hope and resilience, demonstrating that even in the face of devastating loss, there is a path to recovery and renewal. Through these annual gatherings, Coeur Vert not only helps to rejuvenate Portugal's national park but also inspires a new generation of environmental stewards committed to making a positive impact on the world.
