A Global Collaboration

We organize and held15 editions of the International Reforestation Camp (CIR) organized in Burkina Faso, Mali,  Senegal and recently started a new Green Wall in Ivory Coast, that lost more than 80% of its green mass in the past 60 years due to cocoa farming.

5,398 hectares of land reforested with 1,220,515 acacia and baobab plants by young people from more than 200 countries around the world gathered to respond to the desertification crisis in the Sahelo-Saharan zone, by demonstrating their resources, resilience and leadership, to contribute to the Great Green Wall project.

Objectives

  1. Combat Desertification: By planting trees, shrubs, and grasses, the project aims to halt the advance of the Sahara Desert into the Sahel.

  2. Restore Degraded Lands: The project seeks to restore 100 million hectares of degraded land by 2030, thereby improving soil fertility and agricultural productivity.

  3. Improve Livelihoods: By creating jobs and increasing food security, the project aims to improve the livelihoods of communities living in the Sahel.

  4. Mitigate Climate Change: The project contributes to carbon sequestration, helping to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

  5. Preserve Biodiversity: By restoring ecosystems, the project helps to preserve biodiversity and protect endangered species.

Implementation and Results

Tree Planting

Millions of trees are being planted to create a green belt across the Sahel. These trees play a crucial role in anchoring the soil, reducing erosion, and enhancing soil fertility.

Sustainable Agriculture

The project encourages sustainable farming practices that improve soil health and boost crop yields, making agriculture more productive and resilient.

Water Management

Innovative techniques like rainwater harvesting and the construction of small dams are being employed to enhance water availability for both agriculture and livestock, ensuring reliable water sources.

Community Involvement

Local communities are deeply involved in both the planning and implementation of the project. This active participation ensures the project's sustainability and alignment with community needs.

Progress and Impact

Recent reports highlight significant progress, especially in countries like Senegal, where millions of trees have been planted, and large areas of land have been restored. The project has also created jobs and improved food security for thousands of people in the region. Moreover, it has fostered regional cooperation and underscored the importance of sustainable land management.
